Energy and climate impacts of digital technologies | George Kamiya | TEDxClimateChangeAI

George Kamiya speaks about the energy and greenhouse gas emissions from digital technologies, and provides ideas on how to keep them at bay in light of ever growing computing needs. He also discusses ways in which digital technologies can be employed to help combat the climate crisis. This talk is based on his much acclaimed work on digital technologies and energy at the International Energy Agency. George coordinates the IEA’s work on digitalisation and tracking clean energy progress, and leads the agency’s analysis on ICT energy use and automated and shared mobility.

He was a lead author of the 2017 Digitalization & Energy report and has contributed to the agency’s work on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
